Rights Management: Intellectual Property and Rights Coordinator
Function of Job:
Under general direction of assigned director, the Rights Coordinator will support all Rights Management tool sets including PRISM, GRDW, RAS, RMM, PGM and all future state systems. Additionally, the incumbent will manage intellectual property assets and rights clearance projects by providing professional support in the identification, licensing, marketing, and reporting of Pearson Learning Services intellectual property.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Rights Management Strategy: Planning and Compliance
1.Serves as a resource to the individual Business Unit Product Development, Product Management and Marketing groups, and to Integrated Marketing Services on all issues related to rights, copyrights, and license terms and conditions.
Support the Business Units with Copyright Notice Language and branding matters
Reviews marketing materials such as catalogs for marks and IP
Research trademarks to determine if they are viable for new products
Advise on standard copyright formats and requirements
Maintains copyright style guidelines for implementation in USLS products
2.Supports Partnership agreements, acquisitions and divestitures
3.Guides the Business Units and the Company in implementing and understanding the mandated permission securing policies
Advise on legal and business terms related to Pearson licenses and third-party contracts to ensure alignment to a project rights strategy
Identify products require copyright registrations
Socialize the benefits of copyright protection and the importance of registrations
Rights Management: Data Management
1.Maintain the Preferred Sources Master Roster to include new preferred vendors and revisions to existing agreements/partnerships
2.Engage with content providers to procure usage reports and login credentials for new users
3.Identify product family and extract data sets from reporting platforms or Rights Management System to support compliance efforts
Work with technology teams to resolve system breaks and errors
Assist with building an enhanced rights management system that would include IP, Sub-rights, Granting and Contract Management functionality
Assess rights data to determine the impact of agreements/partnerships and compliance to business terms
Intellectual Property Management
1.Assess Intellectual Property matters related to releases, legal clauses and IP practices and provide guidance as needed
Organize and update policies on IP matters including but not limited to copyright notices and legal clauses on third-party contracts
Field general IP questions particularly as it relates to copyright, trademarks, right of publicity and privacy issues.
Research current case law related to copyright issues
Socialize and maintain information on media platform available to Product Development, Product Management and other interested parties
2.Manage and protect third party intellectual property by analyzing its uses or proposed uses in programs and products to ensure that such uses are aligned with the applicable rights obtained from rights holders.
Evaluate status of rights package for asset(s) and/or product(s) to determine if rights are available or require additional clearance
Assess any rights restrictions that would limit the creation of adaptations or derivatives
Processes and advises on rights review requests
Memorialize copyright registrations within the copyright database
Record partnerships in a centralized database
3.Protect company Intellectual Property by investigating unauthorized uses and distributing take down notices to infringers
Document all company IP infringements and engage with Legal as needed
Notify appropriate business stakeholders
Collaborate with product management, sales and marketing to prevent future infringement
Perform related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree; Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Intellectual Property preferred
2 ? 4 years? experience managing IP with an education and/or media company
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of state, federal, and international laws regarding technology transfer and intellectual property.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Strong consultative skills with the confidence and ability to enforce rules.
Ability to work independently and in teams.
Ability to convey and apply patent rules and IP policies
Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
Computer literacy with standard word processing, MS Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint), email, Internet applications, and USPTO systems (EFS-Web, PAIR).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
